The 6th Annual New Richmond March Madness Indoor 5v5 Tournament is brought to you by
the New Richmond Girls and Boys High School programs.
Tournament Information: Tournament Information:
• Age groups will depend on the number of teams registered per group. We will do our best
to set up brackets without combining age groups but in the end want to assure teams get
to play so teams may be combined with an age group higher or lower and as with boys/
girls in the same age group.
• Teams will be placed in age brackets of the oldest player on the team.
• Co-ed teams are welcome but will be placed in the boys bracket of their age group.
• Ages U11 through U15 play on Saturday, March 14.
• High School age (U16 to U18) will play on Sunday, March 15. We will group by JV and
Varsity.
• Ages groups will include:

Tournament Details: Tournament Details:
• Each team is guaranteed 3 games
• 30 minute games with 1 minute halftime
• One referee present per game
• Courts will be marked using the basketball court boundaries
• The goal crease will be marked
• All balls played in with a pass from the ground
• Futsal balls used
• Concessions Available, no carry in food or beverages allowed!
• A $3 entry fee will be charged for the day (players and one coach free)
• A detailed list of rules will be sent to each team contact
Registration Information: Registration Information:
Registration is $25 per player. Each player receives a tournament t-shirt if registered by the
February 13th deadline.
There is no Max Roster size but there is a minimum of 5 players are needed to play.
Final registration deadline is Thursday, February 13 at 5 pm. The tournament is open until
filled in each age group. Checks can be made out to the New Richmond Soccer Club. Mail to

Rules of the Game Rules of the Game
Field Dimensions: Field Dimensions:
• The playing field will be the size of a regulation basketball court. The outside lines of the basketball court will
be used as out of bounds lines for the field. Games are played on a hardwood gym floor.
No Offsides in 5v5 Soccer. No Offsides in 5v5 Soccer.
Game is played a goalie and 4 players on the field.
No Slide Tackling: No Slide Tackling:
• Players must stay upright and “on their feet” and may not make contact with an opposing player.
Goal Scoring: Goal Scoring:
• A goal may only be scored from a touch (offensive or defensive). Goals cannot be scored from kick in’s.
The Goal Box: The Goal Box:
• The goal box will be defined. Goalies cannot touch the ball with their hands outside the goal box.
Game Duration: Game Duration:
• The game shall be 30 minutes in length with a one minute half time. The referee will determine who starts
with the ball. Games tied at the end of the game will play a 3 minute sudden death over time with a Golden
Goal (first team to score wins). If still tied after sudden death then 3 kicks from the mark if tied after that
then alternating kicks until a winner. A team, at the referee’s discretion, will forfeit at game time if they are
not present and ready to play. There are no time outs during 5v5 games.
Penalty Kicks: Penalty Kicks:
• Shall be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by an infraction (the
infraction does not automatically result in a red card). It is a direct kick taken from the designated mark.
This is a dead-ball kick. If a goal is not scored, the defense obtains possession with an indirect kick in.
Hand Ball Clarification: Hand Ball Clarification:
• Deliberate handling of the ball that denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity
will result in a penalty kick and the player committing the offense receiving a red card.
Five Yard Rule: Five Yard Rule:
• In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the
defensive player’s goal is closer than five yards, the ball shall be placed five yards from the goal box, in line
with the place of the penalty.
Kick In’s: Kick In’s:
• The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of thrown in. The ball is considered in play when
the ball is touched with a foot and moves on full rotation. The ball must be stopped before putting back into
play. You cannot score from a kick in.
Direct Kicks: Direct Kicks:
• All kicks, except kick in’s, are direct. Penalties in the boxed area are penalty kicks taken from the designated
mark.
Indirect Kicks: Indirect Kicks:
• Kick in’s are indirect kicks.
Goal Kicks: Goal Kicks:
• Goal kicks will be taken by throw in and not kick in. Throw in’s cannot pass mid court. The ball has to hit the
ground before mid court or the result is an indirect kick.
• NO goalie throws of any kind can go beyond the mid court. Result will be an indirect kick at mid field.

• May be taken in any direction.
Cautioned Players (Yellow Cards): Cautioned Players (Yellow Cards):
• Players that receive a yellow card will be required to come out of the game. If a player receives a second
yellow in the game they will be out of the rest of that game. Yellow cards do not carry over.
Player Ejection (Red Cards): Player Ejection (Red Cards):
• Referee’s have the right to eject a player or coach from the game for continual disobedience or as a result
of an incident that warrants sending off. The player receiving the red card will automatically be suspended
for the remainder of the tournament. No exceptions will be made. No refunds will be given.
Sportsmanship is expected from all participants and spectators.
Coach/Parent Ejection: Coach/Parent Ejection:
• Referees have the right to eject a coach or parent from the game for continual disobedience or as a result
of an incident that warrants ejection. Coaches or parents whom are ejected by the referee or tournament
official must leave the facility immediately. If a coach or parent refuses to leave the game may be forfeited
in favor of the opposing team. No entrance fee refunds will be given.
Number of Players: Number of Players:
• There is no maximum number of players per team. Minimum of 5 players needed to play a game. 5
players are on the field at a time. Players may only play on one team at a given level. Players can play on
multiple teams in the tournament at different age groups. $15 fee is due for each team a player plays on
but no additional shirt will be given. If an additional shirt is needed then $25 will be the fee.
Player Registration: Player Registration:
• All players must be registered on their team’s roster form before the tournament begins (player must be on
the roster before the first game). Rosters are frozen at the start of the first game. All signatures must be
included with paid registration. Injury substitutions will be at the discretion of the tournament officials.
Substitutions: Substitutions:
• Substitutions can be made on the fly as long as the player being subbed in for is off the field before the
new player enters the field of play.
Schedule Changes: Schedule Changes:
• It is the responsibility of the coach or team captain to check the schedule for any changes after each
tournament game (you will not be notified of any schedule changes).
Delay of Game: Delay of Game:
• Any player may be cautioned with a yellow card if it is deemed by the referee that the player is intentionally
time wasting, i.e. if a player intentionally kicks the ball long distances away from the playing area in order
to waste time.
Tie Games: Tie Games:
• Games tied at the end of the game will play a 3 minute sudden death over time with a Golden Goal (first

alternating kicks until a winner.

• Games will be scored based on the following: 6 points for a win, 0 points for a loss, 3 additional points for
a shutout, and one point per goal scored with a maximum of 6 goals. A forfeited game is scored 6-0 win
for the team present. 15 points max per game.

Tie-Breakers: Breakers: Breakers:
• For teams that are tied in total points the following tie-breakers will take place. Ties between two teams
will be broken based on head to head results. If more than two teams are tied, or the teams did not play
head to head, the team that allowed the fewest goals will be the winner. If teams are still tied the team
that had the best goal differential will be determined the winner. If teams are still tied the team scoring
the most goals will be determined the winner. If teams are still tied we will have a best of 3 shootout
between the teams that are tied. If more than two teams are tied we will flip a coin to determine who
gets a bye in the shootout.
Protests: Protests:
• Protests are strongly discouraged as this is a friendly tournament. Referee judgment calls are not
grounds for a protest. All protests will be denied.
Age of Participants: Age of Participants:
• The age group of each team is determined by the birth date of the oldest player on the roster and based
on their age grouping for the 2020 Spring/Summer season.
Sportsmanship: Sportsmanship:
• Good sportsmanship is to prevail at all times. Coaches and team captain will be held responsible for the
conduct of themselves, their players, players’ parents and spectators.
Uniforms: Uniforms:
• All players must wear jersey/shirts during play. If teams have the same color jersey/shirts a colored
pinnie will be provided and a coin flip to determine who will wear the pinnies.
Equipment: Equipment:
• All players U11-15 must wear shin guards. Any player without shin guards will not be allowed to play. An
indoor futsal ball will be used. High School age players will have the choice of wearing shin guards and
will do so at their own risk.
The Tournament Director has the right to move or reschedule games, as well as the right to shorten game
times.
The Tournament Director will have final authority on all event disputes and issues as well as interpretations
of Tournament Rules.
